Federal prosecutors in Virginia (USA) closed the Megaupload, one of the largest file-sharing sites in the world, and accused its founder and others of violating the piracy.
The company is accused of causing the copyright holders costs more than $500 million in lost revenue to pirated movies and other content. The indictment was revealed on Thursday(19), a day after protesting against two websites congressional proposals designed to hamper the online piracy of movies and TV shows with copyright.
The Megaupload claims to be willing to respond to complaints about pirated material.
The indictment says that at one point, Megaupload was the 13th most popular website in the world.
